Sun-Moon Breath Description

YBT 42: -

Give me two thumbs up! Put a thumb on one of your nostrils and close it. Breathe in the other open nostril to the count of 3 and then close this nostril with your other thumb and breathe out of the other nostril for the count of 6. Breathe in the open nostril to the count of 3 and then close it and breathe out the other nostril for the count of 6. Repeat this 6 times. The left side is the moon side, feminine side or cool side, the right side is the sun side, masculine side or hot side. It is important to keep these two energies in balance. This breathing is a great exercise to incorporate in the class when the children need quietening down. It encourages inner reflection and calm. The children could use a mantra instead of counting: they can hear the mantra ‘I look forward to my day’ once as they breathe in and twice as they breathe out. More emphasis is always put on the out breath because the exhalation helps children release tension.
